Olivia Ancona is an international multi-disciplinary dance artist who collaborates with independent choreographers and artists on creating new works.
Currently based in Berlin, she is originally from the west coast of the United States. Having moved multiple times with her family, she received diverse training and exposure to performance from a young age. Olivia attended the Juilliard School from 2007 – 2010 and left to join the Batsheva Ensemble and later the main company in Tel Aviv.
Olivia has worked with a multitude of choreographers and institutions, including Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Eastman, Royal Swedish Ballet, Tanztheater Wuppertal | Pina Bausch, and was a founding member of Sharon Eyal’s company L-E-V. Olivia has collaborated on original works with numerous creators some of whom include Ohad Naharin, Sasha Waltz, Roy Assaf, Johan Inger, Bryan Arias, Alexandra Waierstall, among others. She worked closely as a creative assistant and performer for Alan Lucien Øyen’s dance theater hybrid, Winter guests from 2019-2022.
Olivia has taken her approach to movement and performance into her roles as a teacher, stager, and coach. Since 2018 she has staged works and offered repertoire workshops for Sharon Eyal on various companies throughout Europe. In 2016 she danced, acted and was a movement coach for Dakota Johnson in the 2018 film Suspiria, directed by Luca Guadagnino. Olivia has always had a passion for sharing information and uplifting another generation of dancers. She’s built relationships as a mentor through platforms like Dansii, Voice in Sport, and organically while traveling to teach and stage. As a consultant Olivia has offered support for independent creators on helping to tour internationally and with educational programs to advise and build dance curriculums.
Olivia’s classes have roots in over ten years of experience teaching Gaga, the movement language curated by Ohad Naharin. She has shared her ongoing research with over forty institutions world-wide. Olivia is passionate about working with non-trained movers and is motivated to bring her knowledge of movement, performance, and creativity to all kinds of people.
